Mekelle’s Third Spaces inaugurated
Previously damaged during the conflict, Ayder center has been transformed through a collaboration between the USAID's kefeta IYA, the sub-city’s Youth Affairs Bureau, and funding from the USAID Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI). Now handed over to the government, this center is set to become a vibrant hub for youth empowerment.
The inauguration was attended by key dignitaries, including Eleanor TanPiengco, USAID Deputy Mission Director, Sam Sager,OTI Country Representative, Chalachew Tiruneh, IYA Chief of Party, and Tigray Regional Youth Affairs Head Haish Sibagadus.
During the handover event, Eleanor TanPiengco, remarked, “Young people are potential drivers for economic recovery that’s needed to maintain peace” in addition, Chalachew Tiruneh said that in terms of renovating youth hubs, this is the third service outlet that Kefeta supported in Mekelle.
This center will provide essential services and support the growth & development of the youth in Mekelle.

Kefeta’s Signed New Partnerships for Youth Employment and Empowerment!
Kefeta has signed new partnerships with Beteseb Group and St. Mary’s University to empower 300+ Ethiopian youth through skills building, career counseling, and employment opportunities. Beteseb Group will provide internships, mentoring, and jobs, while St. Mary’s will enhance graduate employability through the Kefeta National Higher Education Alliance. The USAID Integrated Youth Activity - Kefeta is hosting a familiarization workshop to unveil the Integrated Digital Youth Activity: Instant Network Schools initiative. H.E. W/ro Muna Ahmed, State Minister for the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA), opened the event, emphasizing the transformative potential of this initiative to empower Ethiopian youth.
This groundbreaking partnership between USAID, Vodafone Foundation, Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC, and Amref Health Africa builds on Kefeta's legacy of creating over 7,600 jobs and empowering 8,000 SACCO members across 18 cities.
Ato Sisay Zerihun, Managing Executive Regional External Affairs at Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC, highlighted this partnership as a journey of creating innovators, digital experts, and entrepreneurs.Together, we are bridging gaps and building brighter futures for Ethiopian youth!
