✞And in the places they went, they fought against wolves, lions and tigers. And by the grace they were given, they made the beasts (wicked men) into sheep and presented them to Christ. And they preached in many places and healed the sick, cured lepers, gave sight to the blind, made whole the lame, straightened the bowed and raised the dead. And they brought thousands upon thousands of gentiles to the flock.

✞And for this many were burned, flayed, roasted and their blood was poured on earth. Except St. John the Evangelist, all left this world as martyrs. And we honor them as they have given flavor as salt and illuminated as light. We call them “Our fathers, teachers, lords and chiefs”.

✞And one of them (of the 12 Apostles) was St. James (the son of Alpheus) (Matt. 10:1). And he was martyred and went to his Creator on this day after preaching in many countries. He was sacrificed by being stoned by Jews of the time.

✞✞✞Saint Justus the Martyr (Son of Emperor Numerian)✞✞✞
=>St. Justus received a heavenly honor after being martyred together with his wife St. Theoclea and his son Apoli/Abali (Aboli) after renouncing his worldly reign and throne in the 3rd century.

✞✞✞Abba Philo, Bishop of the Persians✞✞✞
=>And on this day also passed away the Bishop of the land of Persia, Abba Philo. This father received the crown of martyrdom in the heavenly kingdom by being beheaded after he had said no to sacrificing for fire and to bowing down to the sun which the Persian King ordered him to do and was tortured much and greatly.

✞✞✞Abba Isodore of Pelusium (El-Pharma) ✞✞✞
=>And also on this day passed away the scholar who was diligent in his struggles and was a teacher of all the world, Abba Isodore of the land of Pelusium/Pharma. Abba Isodore was an Egyptian. He shunned worldly authority and lived in the desert in the Monastery of Pharma for 60 years. He wrote more than 18,000 works. And that gives him the first place in writing many books in world history. And from his works, around 2,000 are still found in the deserts of Egypt.

✞The parents of this Saint were wealthy inhabitants of Mesr (Cairo). And they were relatives to the Alexandrian Archbishops Abba Theodros (Theophilus) and Abba Cyril. And they had no other child other than him and taught him all the spiritual instructions.

✞And he studied them well, heed them and he learned the philosophy of the Greeks and the motion of the stars as well and was greater in his knowledge and wisdom than many. And he was engaged with his struggle and became diligent and was humble.

✞And the people in the country heard about him and discussed and agreed with the Episcopes to appoint him as the Archbishop of Alexandria. And he fled to Pharma (Farma) [after hearing that] and became a monk there.

✞And then he went out of the monastery and entered a small cave and lived alone for many years. He also wrote many works and refutations. Among them there were works addressed to Emperors and the aristocrats. He also commented on the Old and New Testaments.

✞And the books were numbered to be 18,000. These works, refutations and questions and answers were letters that were sent to archbishops and bishops. And also they were addressed to the faithful, as the rivers do give water so did he by the Holy Spirit to the faithful.

✞And after completing this, his good deed, and reached a good old age, finishing his upright journey and serving God, he passed away in peace.

✞✞✞May the God of the Saints multiply His mercy and forgiveness upon us. And may he grant us from their blessings and safeguard our country by their intercessions.

✞✞✞Saint James the Apostle (Son of Alph(a)eus)✞✞✞
=>According to the teachings of the Church there is no one greater that rose than the Holy Apostles except our Lady. The word ‘Apostle’ means “one who is sent forth, a messenger, an envoy and an itinerant for truth”. But the scholars have interpreted it allegorically to mean “courtier/ confidant/ servant”.

✞✞✞And if asked how that was (how the Holy Apostles were greater and were sent forth), it was as follows.
✞After the Holy Savior, the Lord of all creation, to Whom is glory, was born from the Virgin Mary, rose, was baptized, fasted and returned from the Judean Desert, His first task was calling His disciples.

✞And from the people who followed him that were about the populace of 5 markets, as scripture says, “and of them he chose twelve” (Luke 6), He first chose the 12 Apostles.

✞And they were
1. Simeon Peter
2. Andrew (Peter’s brother)
3. James the son of Zebedee
4. John (James’ brother, Zebedee’s son)
5. Philip
6. Bartholomew
7. Thomas
8. Matthew
9. James the son of Alph(a)eus
10. Thaddeus (Lebbaeus)
11. Nathaniel (Simeon the Zealot) and
12. Matthias (who replaced Judas Iscariot)

✞And after He called these 12 Disciples, they learned from Him spending the day where He spent for 3 years and 3 months. And during the nights of those years, they asked for the mysteries to be interpreted for them.

✞And after the Lord taught them well, He ordained them to a high office. They then became shepherds for the world and His confidants. He also told them that they would face many trials. (Matt. 10:16, John 16:33). And in the same manner He as well told them about their honor. (Matt 19:28)

✞And their authority was to the extent “and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matt 16:19) “Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” (John 20:23)

✞They received the keys of the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 16:19) and became shepherds (John 21:15). And with His pure tongue, honoring the Apostles, called them, “salt and light of the world” (Matt.5:13). And they were called His brethren (John 7:5). And He also privileged them with a glory which was higher than these.

✞And after all these, during the passion of the Lord, as they were not ready, some dispersed as they were afraid. However, they later gathered and congregated at the Upper Room and while they stayed in prayer, they saw the resurrection of the Lord. Thus, they touched His feet and hands and were joyous.

✞And for 40 days, they learned the Book of the Covenant, Teachings of the Hidden Things and other matters and mysteries which could not be spoken by a mortal’s tongue and then the Lord ordained them Archbishops and ascended.

✞And under the patronage of the Mother of Light, they stayed and prayed for 10 days with one heart in diligence and the Holy Spirit descended for them. Immediately, they changed from being fearful to brave and became perfect and luminaries. After they assumed 71 tongues, they converted 3 thousand souls with only one sermon. (Acts 2:41)

✞The Holy Apostles then preached in Jerusalem and its surroundings for a year and converted many Jews to Christianity. And after this, according to Tradition, they divided the world into 12 with lots.

✞And because the Holy Spirit was with them while they did this, they received dioceses according to their capabilities. And they went for the great spiritual commission with their disciples.

ከ12ቱ ሐዋርያት አንዱ (ማቴ.10:1) ብዙ አሕጉር አስተምሮ በዚህ ቀን በሰማዕትነት ወደ ፈጣሪው ሔዷል::

=>ቅዱስ ዮስጦስ በ3ኛው ክ/ዘመን መጨረሻ ምድራዊ የንግሥና ዙፋንን ንቆ በክርስቶስ ስም በሰማዕትነት ከሚስቱ ቅድስት ታውክልያና ከአንድ ልጁ ቅዱስ አቦሊ ጋር ሰማያዊ ክብርን ተቀዳጅቷል::

=>አባ ኤስድሮስ ግብፃዊ ሲሆኑ ሹመትን ጠልተው ፈርማ በሚባል ገዳም ለ60 ዓመታት በበርሃ ውስጥ ከ18,000 በላይ ድርሳናትን ፅፈዋል:: ይሕም በዓለም ታሪክ ብዙ መጻሕፍትን በመጻፍ ቀዳሚው ያደርጋቸዋል:: ከድርሳናቱ መካከል 2,000 ያህሉ ዛሬም ድረስ በግብፅ በርሃ ውስጥ ይገኛሉ::

በዚች ቀን የፋርስ ሀገር ኤጲስቆጶስ አባ ፌሎ በሰማእትነት አረፈ ። ይህንንም ቅዱስ ለእሳት እንዲሰዋ ለፀሀይም እንዲሰግድ የፋርስ ንጉስ አዘዘው እምቢ በአለውም ጊዜ ታላቅ ስቃይን አሰቃይቶ እራሱን በሰይፍ ቆረጠው በመንግስተ ሰማያት የሰማእትነትን አክሊል ተቀበለ ።
በረከቱም ከእኛ ጋር ትኑር።

በዚችም እለት በገድል የተጠመደ ምሁር የሆነ የአለሙ ሁሉ መምህር አባ ኤስድርስ ፈርማ ከሚባል አገር አረፈ። የዚህም ቅዱስ ወላጆቹ በምስር አገር የከበሩ ባለፀጉች ናቸው።

ለእስክንድርያ ሊቃነ ጳጳሳትም አባ ቴዎድሮስና አባ ቄርሎስ ዘመዶች ናቸውከእርሱም በቀር ልጅ የላቸውም መንፈሳዊ ትምህርትን ሁሉ አስተማሩት ።

ግልፅ አድርጎ አጠናቸው ጠበቃቸውም ዳግመኛም የዮናናውያንን የፍልስፍና ትምህርት የከዋክብትን አካሄድና አለምን መዞራቸውን ተማረ በእውቀቱና በጥበቡም ከብዙዎች ከፍ ከፍ አለ በገድልም የተጠመደ ትሁትና የሚተጋ ሆነ።

በሀገሮችም ያለ ሰዎች ሰለርሱ በሰሙ ጊዜ በእስክንድርያ አገር ላይ ሊቀ ጵጵስና ይሾመት ዘንድ ተማክረው ከኤጲስቆጶሳቱ ጋር ተስማሙ ። በሌሊትም ወጥቶ ሽሽ ወደ ፈረማ ገዳም ደርሶ በዚያ መነኮሰ።

ከዚያም ወጥቶ ወደ አንዲት አነስተኛ ዋሻ ገብቶ ብቻውን በወስጧ ብዙ ዘመናት ኖረ ብዙ ድርሳናትንና ተግሳፃትንም ደረሰ ከዕርሳቸውም ስለ ነገስታትና ስለ መኳንንት የደረሳቸው አሉ የቤተ ክርስቲያንን መፃህፍቶችን ብሉያትና ሀዲሳትን ተረጉመ።

የመፅሀፍታቹም ቁጥራቸው አስራ ስምንት ሺህ ነው። እነዚህም ድርሳናት ተግሳፃት ጥያቄዎችና መልሶች ወደ ሊቃነ ጳጳሳትና ኤጲስቆጶሳት የተላኩ መልእክቶች ናቸው። ወደ ምእመናንም ወንዞች ውኃዎችን እንደሚያፈልቁ እርሱ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ የሚያስፈልቃቸው ሆኗልና።

ይህንንም በጎ ስራውን ሲፈፅሙ መልካም ጉዞውንም አከናውኖ ወደ በጎ ሽምግልና ደርሶ እግዚአብሄርንም አግልግሎ በሰላም አረፈ።

✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the Great Saint Barsauma the Syrian✞✞✞

✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞

✞✞✞Abba Barsauma the Great✞✞✞
=>Abba Barsauma the Great was a father who expanded monasticism and ascetic life in the Syrian Church.

✞St. Barsauma, who expanded holy living in many places including the land of Syria in the 5th century, was one of the fathers who became the pillars for the Church. He has stayed for 54 years without sleep in his strife.

✞And in all these years, he only leaned against a wall to rest but did not even choose to sit. And because he prayed day and night for himself and the people, he attracted many souls to life.

✞In addition to expanding monasticism and bearing disciples, he was also renowned for his preaching. And he was as well one of the scholars who were present in the Ecumenical Council of Ephesus in 431 AD (423 E.C). And the Emperor of Constantinople (Theodosius ll/ the Younger) who was astounded by the Saint’s life of holiness gave him his royal ring and seal.

✞And as the Saint was wise, he used the Emperor’s seal to send decrees that said “Love one another” all over the world. And when he heard that 636 indolent Bishops had convened a council in 451A.D (443 E.C) and had killed Abba Dioscorus (as he died in exile), he went to the palace and rebuked the heretics (Marcian and Pulcheria) in public.

✞And as he was grieved by them, they were smitten. The Great Saint Abba Barsauma performed many miracles including stopping the sun on its path and departed on this day.

††† ታላቁ (THE GREAT ይሉታል) አባ በርሱማ በሶርያ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ምንኩስናና ገዳማዊ ሕይወትን ያስፋፋ አባት ነው::

በ5ኛው መቶ ክ/ዘመን ምድረ ሶርያን ጨምሮ በብዙ ቦታዎች የቅድስና ሕይወትን ያስፋፋው ቅዱስ በርሱማ ለቤተ ክርስቲያን ምሰሶ ከሆኑላት አበው አንዱ ነው:: እርሱ ከተጋድሎው ብዛት ለ54 ዓመታት ያለ እንቅልፍ ቆይቷል::

በእነዚህ ዘመናትም ግድግዳ ላይ ጠጋ ብሎ ከማረፉ በቀር መቀመጥን እንኩዋ አልመረጠም:: በመዓልትም በሌሊትም በፍቅር አብዝቶ ስለ ራሱና ስለ ሕዝቡ በመጸለዩ የብዙዎቹን ነፍስ ወደ ሕይወት ማርኩዋል::

ገዳማትን ከማስፋፋትና ደቀ መዛሙርትን ከማብዛቱ ባለፈ በስብከተ ወንጌልም የተመሰከረለት አባት ነበር:: በ431 (423) ዓ/ም በኤፌሶን በተደረገው የቅዱሳን ጉባኤ ላይ ከተገኙ ሊቃውንትም አንዱ ነው:: በቅድስና ሕይወቱ የተገረመው የቁስጥንጥንያው ንጉሥ (ትንሹ ቴዎዶስዮስ) የንግሥና ቀለበቱን እና ማኅተሙን ሸልሞታል::

ቅዱሱም የዋዛ አልነበረምና በንጉሡ ማኅተም እያተመ "ተፋቀሩ" የሚሉ ብዙ አዋጆችን ወደ መላው ዓለም ልኩዋል:: በ451 (443) ዓ/ም በኬልቄዶን 636 ሰነፍ ዻዻሳት ጉባኤ አድርገው አባ ዲዮርስቆሮስን እንደ ገደሉት ሲሰማም ወደ ቤተ መንግስት ሒዶ ከሃዲዎቹን (መርቅያንና ሚስቱ ብርክልያን) በአደባባይ ዘልፏቸዋል::
