One evening, just as dusk settled over the village, a series of terrible roars echoed down from the mountains, sending ripples of fear through Eldergrove. Word quickly spread that the monster rumored to lurk in the mountains — a massive, ancient creature known as the Vaskaryn — had awoken from its centuries-long slumber.

The Vaskaryn was a creature woven into the oldest stories of the village, a dragon-like beast covered in thick scales of dark iron, with eyes that glowed like molten lava. According to the stories, the Vaskaryn had once nearly destroyed Eldergrove before being put to sleep by an ancient spell, a spell that was only effective so long as the people of the village lived in harmony with the land. Now, with strange withering of crops and reports of greedy traders coming to the village to exploit its resources, the elders feared that the ancient pact had been broken, stirring the creature’s wrath.
