Thalia listened quietly as the elders debated what to do, her mind working quickly. When no one volunteered, she felt a strange compulsion rise within her. She stood, her heart pounding, and spoke up.
“I will go,” she said, her voice steady.
Her words were met with gasps and horrified expressions. She was barely an adult, slight and slender, trained only in the ways of healing — not in combat or magic. Yet there was something in her eyes, a spark of quiet determination that silenced the room. She didn’t explain that she felt something calling her to the mountain, a deep, instinctual pull she couldn’t ignore.
