🟡Types of arterial occlusion P-1
🔸Arterial thrombosis are mostly caused when an artery is damaged by atherosclerosis. Fatty deposits build up on the walls of the arteries and cause them to harden and narrow.
🔸An embolism is the lodging of an embolus, a blockage-causing piece of material, inside a blood vessel. The embolus may be a
✅blood clot (thrombus)
✅fat globule (fat embolism)
✅bubble of air or other gas (gas embolism)
✅amniotic fluid (amniotic fluid embolism), or foreign material.
🔸A coronary artery spasm is a temporary tightening (constriction) of the muscles in the wall of one of the arteries that sends blood to your heart. A spasm can decrease or completely block blood flow to part of the heart.
🔸Atheroma is the medical term for the buildup of materials that adhere to arteries. Among others, these include:
✅fat
✅cholesterol
✅calcium
✅connective tissue
✅inflammatory cells
This buildup (also known as atherosclerotic plaque) can accumulate over time.
