✞✞✞Eme Me’uz (Fragrant Mother) Saint Fikerte Kirstos ✞✞✞
=>The Ethiopian Martyr and Righteous St. Fikerte Kirstos (Eme Me’uz) is one of the mothers who have received a covenant from God and are commemorated on the 29th of each month in the Church. Who is Fikerte Kirstos (Eme Me’uz)? What covenant did she receive? Let us see her strife a bit.
✞”. . . he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.” Matt. 10:41✞
=>In the diocese of Northern Wollo, district of Meket, locality of Tiba Maryam in a place called Mintamer there is a coenobitic monastery, the Monastery of Eme Me’uz Kidane Miheret and Fikerte Kirstos, which was established in the 17th century by the Ethiopian martyr and righteous mother St. Fikerte Kirstos.
✞You will find this great and wondrous monastery, the Monastery of Eme Me’uz Kidane Miheret and Fikerte Kirstos, which was built in a single day by Saint Fikerte Kirstos and that bowed on all its four corners for the Lord and which was established more than 370 years ago after you have traveled 665kms from Addis Ababa through Dessie and stopping at the town called Gerager (Filakit) and journeying on foot for 2hrs and 30 minutes.
✞The founder of this monastery, the Ethiopian martyr and righteous woman, St. Fikerte Kirstos was conceived on Miyazia 04 (April 12) and was born on the day of the commemoration of the Nativity of the Lord, Tahisas 29 (January 7) in Southern Gonder, the district of Anbesa Meda at a place called Keteta Maryam, which is adjacent to the Monastery of Abune Hara Dingel.
✞The Saint’s father was called Laba and her mother Wengelawit and they were compassionate people that loved God and kept His commandments. However, as they were barren and did not have any children, they diligently prayed to God and He gave them a daughter like St. Fikerte Kirstos who is a blessing through her prayers for the country and her kinsfolk.
✞When the Saint was 80 days old, they took her to be baptized and when she was given the Body of the Lord, she miraculously praised the Lord saying, “Glory be to You my God Who have given me Your life giving Holy Body and Glorious Blood.” Her baptismal name was Maryam Tsedale and her formal one was Muzit. Fikerte Kirstos is her monastic name.
✞Our mother, St. Fikerte Kirstos, grew up learning the Scriptures from a father named Abba Daniel. And when she was old enough, her parents wanted to give her hand in marriage and wedded her to Zera Kirstos a man from a kind family.
✞During the night, when the newlyweds entered their chamber, St. Fikerte Kirstos said to Zera Kirstos, “My brother! I did this so that I would fulfill the wishes of my parents and not because I want to be a wife. Rather my wish is to be a bride of God.” And the Righteous Zera Kirstos who was filled with the grace of God replied, “I also did this to honor the wishes of my mother and father but I do not have any carnal desires.”
✞Then, they lived before their families and the countrymen as husband and wife for 40 years but kept their purity and were virgins.
