🍪 While making yummy cookies, talk in your language about the ingredients, the quantities you need and the scents of Christmas spices.

🌍 A great way to review and enrich vocabulary.

Here is a simple recipe for gingerbread:

- 200g brown sugar
- 300 g flour
- 1 small spoon baking soda
- 150g grinded nuts (e.g. almonds)

If you want to support your child to learn, the best thing you can do, is to play a lot with your child.

Here is why:
🌱Play allows them to use all their senses.
🌱Play strengthens their fine- and gross motor skills
🌱Play helps them to better focus and concentrate
🌱Play fosters their imagination and creativity
🌱Through play children learn to find solutions and come up with new ideas
🌱Through play children learn essential cooperation and negotiation skills

And most importantly when playing, children communicate.

🌏🧸This is why I believe playful learning methods are the best way to support children learning about early literacy and multiple languages.

You do not need a lot to provide your child with a rich play environment that will help your child to further develop his language skills.

Children have a natural desire to explore things with their hands and the other senses. 🤗

🙌🏼Do you remember how your babies put everything in their mouth? This is how babies actually learn about their surrounding world - by touching things and putting them into their mouth. Even children up to the age of 6 years still have very limited capacity to understand abstract concepts, such as a written numbers, shapes or letters. They still need to experience those concepts concretely to fully understand.

Playful and hands-on learning provides children with opportunities to practically experience the world around them.

❣️The best thing you can do to support your child's development is to play a lot with your child.

Your child might learn to read the clock at school, but how to show your child how to read the clock in YOUR language? ⌚🌍

🎨Today I am showing you a very simple tool you can create with your child. It does not have to be beautiful, but through the simple fact that your child contributed making it. you will see how much your child will take ownership of this activity and start asking what time it is.

This is where you can start showing your child how to read the clock in your language. 🤩🥳

Kids are often fascinated by clocks and watches. But teaching the time was definitely not an easy task for us and is still work in progress.

⏰ My daughter just got a clock for her 6th birthday and is now very eager to learn how to read the time.
Happy to share with you some insights this week how we have gone about to teach her the time in different languages and which games and prompts I came up with. 🤗🌈

My 3 tips for quick and dirty arts and crafts projects with your kids

🎨Doing arts and crafts does not need a lot of time and materials.
I love doing small arts and crafts projects with using just what the kids find around our house.

These are my 3 tips for you to get started:

1. Your balcony or yard is a great place to start with. Let them collect some leaves, flowers, anything interesting they find. 🌿

2. Let your children guide the activity. Use whatever they find. 🧏🏻‍♂️

3. Enjoy the process and do not worry about the result. Children learn so much more if we leave them to explore the materials freely without a clear result in mind. 🎨

🌿🍃🍁 Leaves are such a nice material for kids to explore.
I was really proud of the creations the nannies in our last trainings in the DRC, Senegal and Mali came up with. 🥰

Next time you are outside, ask your child to collect a couple of leaves (probably you do not even have to ask, as kids just love to collect leaves of different shapes and colors). 💬🌿 Curious to hear what your kids can make out of those.

ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK - Shape scavenger hunt

🎉Here is a fun game that will help your child to learn and remember shapes.

Especially if you have several languages at home, shapes are not always easy to memorize for children as we not often use this vocabulary in our everyday language.
This game is a nice way to review some of the main shapes.

👉🏽Step 1:
Cut out different shapes from paper.

👉🏽Step 2:
Place them on a table and name the shapes with your child.

👉🏽Step 3:
Ask your child to find different objects around the house and to match them to the shapes.

This is also one of the activities that we show nannies in our NANNY TRAINING ´The Art of Creative Play & Learning´. 🌈
Registrations are still open this week 🙋🏽https://abracadabra-learning.org/nannytraining/

🌈🎨Would you like your child being engaged in more creative and stimulating activities at home?

The registrations for the Nanny Training Course are still open this week. 🙋🏽👇🏻More information here https://abracadabra-learning.org/nannytraining/

Would you like your child to learn another language? Maybe one of the community languages around you? 🙈🤷🏽‍♀️

🦁🐂🦘Animals are a nice way to get started. But the same method works with any object. You can also play it with colors, shapes, numbers, etc.

👉🏽STEP 1: Show and tell
Take 3 animals. Show them one after the other to your child and say the word. Repeat this step several times.

👉🏽STEP 2: Where is ...
Put the 3 animals one besides the other. Name one animal and ask your child to show you where it is. Play this game as long as your child is interested and until your child is confidently showing you the right animal.

👉🏽STEP 3: What is this ...
Finally, point to one of the animals and ask your child. ´What is this?´ Be patient. Depending on the age, your child will soon be able to say the write word.

Once your child is confident with the 3 words, you can add up to 6, 9 or 12 animals. Go each time through the 3 steps, reviewing the old vocabulary and adding 3 new words to it.

Being able to learn different languages from early on is such a gift we can offer to our children. Even though it is not always easy, it is so worthwhile following through.

🎨🌈Playful learning using a Montessori approach has helped me a lot to keep my children engaged and sufficiently exposed so that they had the chance to become fully trilingual.
