Ethio telecom announces landmark IPO
Investors can acquire a stake in Ethio telecom as the state-owned giant embarks on a milestone initial public offering (IPO) ahead of the launch of the country’s maiden securities market.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the offering during a ceremony at the Sheraton Addis earlier today, putting 10 percent of the company on sale to the public.
Potential investors can buy a minimum of 33 shares, each valued at 300 birr, in Ethio telecom, which has an official market capitalization of 100 billion birr. The ceiling is set at 3,333 shares for a single investor.
Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio telecom, disclosed during the event that the share purchase window will remain open until January 3, 2025.
