"Gates of Hell" (Darwaz crater) - Turkmenistan.
This is a crater located in Darvaz, in the desert of Turkmenistan, 70 meters wide and 30 meters deep.
It has been continuously burning for 50 years, that is, since 1971, when a team of Soviet geologists, penetrating the area with drilling wells in search of oil, reached a sack of natural gas that destroyed the ground, thus creating the current chasm.
To avoid a leak of poisonous gas, the geologists decided to set a fire, hoping it would be over within days, and the crater was still burning.
