Remedial Chemistry Unit 3 Part 2
CALII Academy โ We Learn for Others ๐๐ค๐
3.4 The Cell and Its Environment
Molecules move in and out of the cell surface membrane, allowing water, nutrients, and waste to pass through.
๐ฌ Atoms, Ions, Molecules, and Solutions
โ๏ธ Atoms are the basic units of matter, made up of protons (โ), neutrons (โช), and electrons (โ).
๐งช Elements consist of only one type of atom (e.g., Hydrogen).
๐ Ions are atoms that gain or lose electrons, acquiring a charge.
๐งฌ Molecules
Atoms join together to form molecules. They can be made of the same or different types of atoms. For example, oxygen gas (Oโ) consists of two oxygen atoms bonded together.
๐ก๏ธ Solids, Liquids, and Gases
๐ง Solid (Ice): Molecules are closely packed and only jiggle in place.
๐ง Liquid (Water): Heating makes molecules move faster and spread apart.
๐จ Gas (Water Vapor): Further heating makes molecules move so fast that they separate completely into the air.
