Test for general relativity

What Einstein proposed was nothing less than a major revolution in our understanding of space and time. It was a new theory of gravity, in which mass determines the curvature of space time and that curvature, inturn, controls how objects move. Like all new ideas in science, no matter who advances them, Einstein’s theory had to be tested by comparing its predictions against the experimental evidence. This was quite a challenge because the effects of the new theory were apparent only when the mass was quite large. (For smaller masses, it required measuring techniques that would not become available until......

#What_is_hydrostatic_equilibrium?

In fluid mechanics, hydrostatic equilibrium or hydrostatic balance (also known as hydrostasy)is the condition of a fluid or plastic solid at rest. This occurs when external forces such as gravity are balanced by a pressure gradient force. For instance, the pressure-gradient force prevents gravity from collapsing Earth's atmosphere into a thin, dense shell, whereas gravity prevents the pressure gradient force from diffusing the atmosphere into space.
Hydrostatic equilibrium is the distinguishing criterion between dwarf planets and small Solar System bodies, and has other roles in astrophysics and planetary geology. This qualification means that the object is symmetrically rounded into an ellipsoid shape, where any irregular surface features are due to a relatively thin solid crust. In addition to the Sun, there are a dozen or so equilibrium objects confirmed to exist in the Solar System, with others possible.
To put it simply, hydrostatic equilibrium is the balance struck between pressure-gradient force and gravity. This phenomenon is why Earth's atmosphere neither dissipates into space nor collapses into a thin, dense shell, and is also what gives large celestial objects their ellipsoidal shape.

#Bose_Einstein_statistics

In quantum statistics, Bose–Einstein (B–E) statistics describe one of two possible ways in which a collection of non-interacting,indistinguishable particles may occupy a set of available discrete energy states at thermodynamic equilibrium. The aggregation of particles in the same state, which is a characteristic of particles obeying Bose–Einstein statistics, accounts for the cohesive streaming of laser light and the frictionless creeping of superfluid helium. The theory of this behaviour was developed (1924–25) by Satyendra Nath Bose, who recognized that a collection of identical and indistinguishable particles can be distributed in this way. The idea was later adopted and extended by Albert Einstein in collaboration with Bose.
The Bose–Einstein statistics apply only to those particles not limited to single occupancy of the same state—that is, particles that do not obey the Pauli exclusion principle restrictions. Such particles have integer values of spin and are named bosons, after the statistics that correctly describe their behaviour. There must also be no significant interaction between the particles.

#The_entropy_of_the_universe_after_the_big_bang

During its life time living beings gain energy in the form of food which is as much as the energy released in the form of heat and waste substances. But these two types of energy differ in the degree of their entropy: heat has a high entropy while the energy accumulated in food (plants) has low entropy. But where does this low entropy in plants come from? Plants use solar energy for photosynthesis and therefore the Sun has even smaller entropy than plants. The Sun was born in a cloud of interstellar gas which must have a smaller entropy than the Sun. The interstellar cloud appeared soon after the Big Bang. Scientists know now that 2 minutes after it the universe was filled with an almost uniform hot gas of hydrogen and helium. But how can a system of gas have small entropy since its molecules are in great disorder? This is only true for a low density gas within which gravity can be neglected. But if the gas has a great density gravity is big enough to come into play and it is the reason for the low entropy of the gas. These arguments reveal that the time arrow could have its explanation in the highly ordered low entropy state of the early universe.

#Participate in #IAAC 2020

Are you ready for IAAC 2020 competition?

What is IAAC?
The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition is an international science competition that enables students from all countries to prove their skills and to unleash their creativity in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. IAAC gives you the unique opportunity to apply your skills to challenging problems. Participants can receive certificates, awards, cash prizes, and global recognition.

Who can participate?
In order to participate in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition, you have to be a high-school or university student. Students from all grades and all countries are invited to participate! There are two age categories:
Junior: under 18 years on 15. May 2020 (submission deadline)
Youth: over 18 years on 15. May 2020 (submission deadline)
Depending on your age category you will have to score more points to qualify for the next round. To solve the problems you should be interested in astronomy, smart, and creative. You should also have a working internet connection to submit your solution online via the submission form: Qualification Round 2020
Prizes and Awards
All participants receive participation certificates. The best students receive the 1. prize, 2. prize, and 3. prize with a cash award of 200 USD, 150 USD, and 100 USD. Furthermore, the most outstanding participants from each global region (Africa, America, Europe, Greater Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia) receive the regional award to honor their excellence. There are also special school awards and awards for ambassadors. You find all information about the 35 awards that worth over 700 USD in total in this information flyer: Prizes and Awards Flyer. Winners, students, and interested youths are encouraged to become official IAAC ambassadors with the aim to inspire students for astronomy and to encourage them to participate in the IAAC competition. You will find all information about the benefits, responsibilities, and application below on this page: More Information
For Parents, Teachers, and Schools
Parents, teachers, and schools are invited to share this opportunity with their students and youths to make talented students in particular benefit from IAAC. We provide materials, flyers, and posters for schools and teachers and we will support you with any issue. We also award several special awards for teachers and schools: More Information

Process and Rounds

1.Qualification Round
The qualification round is the first stage and consists of five astronomy problems that have been published online. You can download the problem sheet below. The problems vary in topic and difficulty: Some of the problems test your astronomy knowledge, others require calculations. The qualification round will not only sharpen your mind but you may also learn more about astronomy and astrophysics!

All participants of the qualification round will receive participation certificates. You have to score at least 15 points (junior, under 18 years) or 20 points (youth, over 18 years) to qualify for the pre-final round. Digitally typed solutions receive a special honorary note on the certificates!

The submission deadline for the qualification round is 15th May 2020

Space time and gravity @OuterSpacebyDanAH.pdf

Space time and gravity.
Is light actually bent from its straight-line path by the mass of Earth? How can light, which has no
mass, be affected by gravity? Einstein preferred to think that it is space and time that are affected by the
presence of a large mass; light beams, and everything else that travels through space and time, then find
their paths affected. Light always follows the shortest path—but that path may not always be straight.
This idea is true for human travel on the curved surface of planet Earth, as well. Say you want to fly from
Addis Ababa to New York .... @OuterSpacebyDanAH

General relativity

Most stars end their lives as white dwarfs or neutron stars. When a very massive star collapses at the end of its life, however, not even the mutual repulsion between densely packed neutrons can support the core against its own weight.

#Black_holes and #Curved_space_time.

Thinking a head.

For most of the twentieth century, black holes seemed the stuff of science fiction, portrayed either as monster vacuum cleaners consuming all the matter around them or as tunnels from one universe to another. But the truth about black holes is almost stranger than fiction. As we continue our voyage into the universe, we will discover that black holes are the key to explaining many mysterious and remarkable objects—including collapsed stars and the active centers of giant galaxies.
