OLA Achieves Major Victory in West Shaggar with ‘Perseverance of Cause’ Campaign
ONM-ABO, December 30, 2024 – The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), committed to liberating the Oromo nation and its homeland, Oromia, announced that its Central Command has achieved a decisive victory in its ongoing campaign against the Ethiopian imperial forces led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the OLA marked the fifth day of its “Perseverance of Cause” campaign, which aims to intensify offensive against the Prosperity Party's (PP) "fascist army."
As part of the ongoing military operation, declared across all OLA Military Command Zones in Oromia, the OLA Central Command launched a fierce attack in the West Shaggar Zone on December 28, 2024. The attack specifically targeted two PP military camps in Nagobe and Dhebisa Hangasu, located in the Ada’a Barga district, Karkaressa village. The assault resulted in significant casualties and the disarming of PP forces.
As a result, more than 250 PP soldiers were neutralized, 62 were wounded, and 50 captured.
Weapons seized by the OLA include:
- One heavy machine gun
- Three automatic machine guns
- Two sniper rifles
- 220 AKM rifles
- Over 10,000 rounds of AKM and PKM ammunition
- 100 hand grenades
- Six Bren launchers
The OLA, which continues to advocate for the rights of the Oromo people and the broader struggle for self-determination, also took control of vital military resources, expected to further bolster their cause.
The OLA views this victory as a clear message to the Ethiopian empire, asserting that its forces, determined to protect the Oromo national cause, will persist in their fight against an oppressive regime.
