#Feasts of #Megabit_1
✞✞✞On this day we start the Month of Megabit, the beginning of the second half of the year, and commemorate our Father Methuselah and Saint Narcissus ✞✞✞
✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞
✞✞✞The Month of Megabit✞✞✞
=>The Month of Megabit has days and nights that are 12hrs each. From today onwards, for the coming 6 months (186 days) let us prepare ourselves to follow the path of God, which is good, by keeping ourselves from useless discourse and by distancing ourselves from wickedness.
✞✞✞ Our Father Methuselah✞✞✞
=>Also on this day, is commemorated Methuselah our father who was the 8th descendant from Adam. St. Methuselah was the son of the Righteous Enoch and the father of the benevolent Lamech. And in Church History he was the father that lived the longest on earth (969 years). St. Methuselah is counted as one of the Ten Holy Fathers.
✞And the Ten Holy Fathers are;
-Our father St. Adam
- Seth
- Enos
- Cainan
- Mahalaleel
- Jared
- Enoch
- Methuselah
-Lamech and
-Noah.
✞✞✞ Saint Narcissus of Jerusalem✞✞✞
=>Also on this day, departed St. Narcissus the Bishop of Jerusalem. This father was appointed during the reign of Caesar Alexander who loved Christians and he kept his flock as the Apostles had, in a good manner.
✞A bit later, Caesar Alexander died and Caesar Maximianus became Emperor. He tortured Christians and killed most of them.
✞At the time, there were some that fled from their country. And this father also took to flight and entered into the desert. The people sought for him but were not successful.
✞Then, they appointed over him a Bishop named Dius and he departed within a few days. Again, they appointed another Bishop named Ghordinus/Gordius (some accounts mention of a Germanion before him).
✞And when the time of flight was over, St. Narcissus returned to Jerusalem from seclusion and found that they had appointed another bishop called Ghordinus/Gordius as mentioned earlier.
✞As he reached Jerusalem, the people were jubilant and Bishop Ghordinus/Gordius besought him to seat on the See once more. And after much plea, he sat on the See and lived with Ghordinus/Gordius for a year. Then, Ghordinus/ Gordius departed.
✞But Abba Narcissus lived until he was of very old age. And he implored his people to appoint another Bishop. However, they said no.
✞And in those days, there was a Bishop of Cappadocia named Alexander that had went to Jerusalem for prayer. And when he completed his want, and the days of the feast being celebrated were done, he wished to return to his country [as he had planned earlier].
✞Nonetheless, a voice was heard on the day of the Resurrection of the Holy Savior that said, “Go to the entrance of the City of Jerusalem to ‘such and such’ gate, there, seize the first person that enters and appoint him as a coadjutor-bishop so that he would aid Narcissus.”
✞Then, they went out and reached the gate of the city where they found Alexander. And without his will, made him a coadjutor-bishop to assist Narcissus. And he lived with the Saint until he (Narcissus) departed.
✞St. Narcissus lived, in total, for 117 years. He lived 81 years before he was appointed a Bishop and 36 years on the See. He passed away in peace after serving God.
✞✞✞Saint Alexander the Martyr✞✞✞
=>Also on this day, is commemorated St. Alexander the martyr. The Holy Marty was Roman and because he did not follow the orders of the apostate Emperor Maximianus and did not sacrifice to his idols, he sentenced him to much affliction.
✞He hung the Saint after fastening to his hands and legs heavy and great stones. He also ordered that he be whipped and that his sides to be cut and fire be lit upon his face.
✞And when he noticed that the Saint was not terrified, he ordered his beheading.
✞And so the Saint received the crown of martyrdom.
✞✞✞May the God of the Saints grant us the years of Methuselah for repentance!
