Takele Uma, CEO of the Ethio-Djibouti Railway (EDR) Share Company, has announced that public passenger train services will commence in February 2025. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Takele shared, “We are delighted to inform you that the Ethio-Djibouti Railway will commence public passenger transport services via train on our online booking platform starting in February 2025.”
Takele emphasized that all passengers will be required to present a valid National ID (Fayida) for both online booking and boarding. “This is essential for ensuring accurate passenger information and facilitating a hassle-free journey,” he said.
An online booking platform is set to launch in the coming weeks, allowing travelers to plan and secure their tickets in advance. This move is expected to boost economic growth and improve mobility between Ethiopia and Djibouti.
