Message of Support to the Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA) Annual General Assembly

Dear President, Vice President, and esteemed members of the Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA),

As the Secretary General of the Africa Union of Architects (AUA), it is my great pleasure and honor to extend my heartfelt message of support to your association. The AEA has historically been one of the most active member sections of the AUA, particularly up until 2018. However, in recent years, interactions have been limited, and it is my hope that we can work together to strengthen our engagement once again.

On 19th February 2025, during my visit to Addis Ababa, I had the privilege of meeting with the President and Vice President of AEA. Our discussions were highly productive, covering various key topics of mutual interest. I have personally assured the AEA leadership that the AUA is committed to taking proactive steps to support the reactivation and strengthening of AEA’s membership.

The wealth of experience and expertise within AEA can greatly benefit not only Ethiopia but also the broader African architectural community. Through the AUA, we can facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and capacity-building opportunities between member sections across the continent. Our discussions also touched on crucial aspects of professional practice, planning and building standards, as well as the various commissions within AUA that offer platforms for interaction and cooperation.

I take this opportunity to commend the excellent work being carried out by the AEA President and his team. Your dedication to the advancement of the profession in Ethiopia is truly commendable.

I wish AEA a successful Annual General Assembly and reaffirm my commitment to fostering a strong and fruitful collaboration between AEA and AUA in the near future.

Roles and Responsibilities of the General Assembly Leadership
1. General Assembly Chairperson
The Chairperson leads and oversees the proceedings of the General Assembly, ensuring an effective and structured discussion. Their key responsibilities include:
- Presiding over the General Assembly and maintaining order.
- Setting the agenda in coordination with the executive committee.
- Facilitating discussions, ensuring fair participation, and guiding decision-making.
- Representing the General Assembly in official capacities.

2. Vice Chairperson
The Vice Chairperson supports the Chairperson and steps in when needed. Their key duties include:
- Assisting in planning and coordinating the General Assembly.
- Presiding over sessions in the absence of the Chairperson.
- Supporting the facilitation of discussions and resolutions.

3. Secretary
The Secretary ensures accurate documentation and smooth administrative processes. Their key responsibilities include:
- Recording key discussions and decisions made by the General Assembly.
- Managing official communications and documentation.
- Coordinating with the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson on procedural matters.
- Ensuring resolutions and action points are properly documented and disseminated.
