This might be important if you’re interested in building communities, organizing events, that type of thing but if you’re not, this’ll be long so please skip.
So there's been an idea I've been thinking about since summer but decided not to pursue because well.... life. I'm interested if there's anyone here who'd like to take it and actually do it because, to be honest, it has so much potential as a launchpad for a lot of things, especially if you're interested in building communities or organizing events.
It's a TedX event. You can do it as TedXAddis - a citywide thing or on your campus (AASTU peeps, take note pleasee, I'd gladly pay any ticket to be there if you do it). And basically, anyone can organize a TedX event if they're passionate about it and can prove they'd do good. The application is open on their website and I think there's a process with getting approval from campus and everything, BUT, it could be a REALLY big thing if you can do it.
The theme I almost submitted was "Ideas worth spreading; Ideas worth pursuing". We've heard a lot about ideas that can change the world but how about ideas that have been pursued? Paths that have been extremely hard but trodden through? Especially in Ethiopia, where pursuing ideas seems daunting, the ones who've done it could really shine at this.
I'm thinking particularly about Mafi Mafi. Whenever I think about "She walked so that others can run", I think of her and what she has done for the Ethiopian fashion community. But she's one example, the potential this can have is so immense. I almost feel bad letting it go but I'll have to, but please, do consider it.
