I like Adele.
She didn't get half-naked in front of the camera; that's not how she garnered attention and admiration.
Hell, I don't think I've even seen her show a cleavage.
She was chubby, but she decided to get fit, which is highly respectable.
Her voice, every layer and wave, is indeed sharpened over years of diligent endeavor; every note is proof of the rigorous vocal trainings she's been through.
She's a vibrant craftswoman with class.
There are female artists who are as hard working, but for some reason, talent means more when the person has a rich personality.
Imagine Adele hanging her ass out, with lyrics describing how she wants you to do her.
If that was her, it wouldn't matter how good her voice sounded. Thank goodness she is the way she is.
In this ocean of "I don't cook, I don't clean," she's a breath of fresh air.
Sexual depiction in art is common, and frankly, it's marvelous when done well, but wearing less to attract more and more attention is far from being art.
I guess anybody who is in the artistic world will reach a point where they have to choose between becoming famous and becoming great.
Rare is for an artist to be great AND famous, like Adele.
Most pioneers of literature, drawings, sculptures, science, you and I don't know their names.
The lucky ones, we got to know, like Nikola Tesla and Emily Dickinson.
But the majority died in a ditch somewhere in this world, names long forgotten.
Nikola Tesla, in his last letter to his mother, wrote this:
My dear mother, I feel sad and dreary when I think of you. I don't know how, but I feel that you are not well. I wish I could be beside you now mother, to bring you a glass of water. All these years that I had spent in the service of mankind brought me nothing but insults and humiliation.
Such could be a life of a legend. Lived years in service just to end up being mocked and forgotten, left to rot in poverty.
I could see why some bleed and toil to achieve wealth and glory far more than excellence.
But what is the cost of fame and wealth?
Should fame and wealth cost us our dignity?
Should we give up our soul for them?
