✨ Part 3: The day my first wedding invitation ended in a ማበጠርያ beatdown.

Last weekend, I was at my friend’s house for her wedding.
My parents gave me full permission, I stayed for days, and had the best time!

But looking back, it made me remember my very FIRST official wedding invitation... and how drastically times have changed 😂


When I was around 7th grade,
I got an invitation from a classmate for her wedding. When I got home, my younger sister broke the news to me.

There was just one tiny problem: My dad hadn't heard about it yet.

The moment he walked in, the interrogation began:

Dad:"የምን ሰርግ ነው ደግሞ?"* 🤨
Me:"የጓደኛዬ ቤት ነው ሰርጉ... ታላቅ እህቷ ልታገባ ነው!"*

Look, I had to lie! I knew my dad’s fierce anti-early-marriage stance, and if he thought an 7th grader was getting married, it was over before it started 🙈
I spent days stressing about how to get permission.

Finally, through my mom’s legendary ጣልቃ ገብነት, my younger sister and I got the green light!

But of course, it came with strict Dad Rules:

1. ❌ No going in car as an አጃቢ anywhere!
2. Must be back home by 9:00 LT sharp!

We agreed, finished our morning chores, and headed out for lunch.
Oh, the fun we had! 🎉

We were dancing like crazy in the girls' room, eating, and living our best lives.

When it was time to leave, the wedding party invited us to go outside the city for the photoshoot.
We thought: "Okay, just a little more fun won't hurt!"

We completely forgot about time, forgot about the rules, and went with the flow—living in pure joy wrapped in underlying panic 😅

By the time we snuck back home... it was 12:45 around Maghrib!
We walked in, and my dad wasn't there.
The sister told us he gone find us and was furious

Immediately, my sister and I executed our standard የአደጋ ጊዜ ቅድመ ጥንቃቄ

1. 🧥 Wearing 5 layers of clothes so the blows wouldn't hurt.
2. Hiding every ቀበቶ, cable, or wire in sight so he couldn't reach them.
3. 🤲 Pure, desperate praying! 😭

When my dad finally burst through the door, we were already tucked in bed acting innocent.
He started scanning the room with his eyes for a weapon. Since all the cables and belts were hidden, his eyes landed on... ትልቁ ማበጠርያ

The Hitting Ceremony commenced immediately.

Because I was the older one and it was my friend's invitation, the punishment distribution was:
Me: 60%
Younger sister: 40%
And as usual, my older sister was sitting in the corner, thoroughly enjoying our shouting like it was a live comedy show 🍿

Looking back today, it's wild how life works.
These days, I get permission to stay out for days at a time without anyone batting an eye.

The house is the same, my parents are the same... but time changes everything. Everything has its own season ❤️

አንዳንዴ የቡና ሱሰኛ ሆነው በሰዓቱ ሳይጠጡ ስትመለከቷቸው በመጠኑ ያገለገለ used እቃ ነው የሚመስሉት። ስታናግሯቸው ቶሎ መልስ አይሰጡም፣ ፊታቸው ሊወድቅ የደረሰ ይመስላል፣ ሲራመዱ ወደ ጎን ያዘነብላሉ፣ ሲቆሙ እንደ "ጨ" ተወዛግበው ነው፣ ብቻ ብዙ ያገለገለ እቃ ወስፍ አላቸው።  አንድ ጉንጭት ቡና ፉት ሲሉ ወዲያው ይታደሳሉ። አዲስ ይሆናሉ።ይህ ሁኔታ በሳይንሱ Caffeine Withdrawal (የካፌይን እጥረት ምልክት) ይባላል።

ያለው ማን ነበር?🤔

ተሰብረን በነበር!

ምናልባት ዱዓዎቻችንን ሁሉ ተሳክቶ ቢሆን ዛሬ ላይ ብዙ እያስታመምናቸው ያሉ ህመሞች በነበሩ..
ለመጠገን የምንፍጨረጨርባቸው ስብራቶች በበዙ..
ለመድፈን የምንሯሯጥባቸው ቀዳዳዎች ባዳከሙን......
የመኖር ተስፋችን በጨለመ
ነበር... ያልተሳካልንም፤ የተሳካልምን
ሁሉም ለበጎ ነው።

Jumu'ah Mubarak! 🤍

እንግዲ አትጨማለቂ...! ሂጂ ተኚ!" 😡
And just like that, my dramatic mourning session was officially over.😂

1️⃣ Back in my childhood school days....
My deep love for football came straight from my dad. Whenever he starts talking about his football days, there's no stopping him:

ኡውው..! ኳስ ነብሴ እስኪወጣ ነበር ምወደው!
Then he’d dive right into his favorite memories, proudly listing every place he played—ለዚህ ወረዳ፣ ለዚያ አውራጃ—and recounting his best skills on the pitch.

Watching him watch a game was a whole performance, honestly. He told me how emotional he used to get during games. For example, during the 2006 World Cup final between France and Italy, when France lost, he got so worked up that he started choking from the sheer stress and literally ፌንት ብጤ መብላቲንግ! 😭😂

The shouting, the drama, the unbelievable tension—the moment a big match started on TV, we had to move every fragile object out of his reach.

2️⃣ My Sister’s Bracelet & The Missing Spectator

Whenever I played football, it was all about dry throats, stubbed toes, and pure freedom. But one particular day, I made a mistake my sister will never forget.

After 1000 ተማጽኖ , I finally convinced my older sister to let me borrow her bracelet to wear to school. When it was time to join the game, I worried I’d lose or break it while running around. So, I handed it to one of the kids standing on the sidelines to hold it for me.

The game ended, I walked off the pitch, and suddenly realized... I completely forgot who I gave the bracelet to! 😱

I went from classroom to classroom, asking everyone, but no one had seen it. When my sister found out... ብዙ ስድብ እና ያልተገደበ የእርግማን ውርጅብኝ አወረደችብኝ! 😩

3️⃣  My Barca Tears

Our whole house was backing Barcelona, so when they lost, the heartbreak completely overwhelmed me. I didn't just feel disappointed—I burst into full-blown tears! No one else in the family was making a scene, but I was sobbing like it was the end of the world.

My ለቅሶ ceremony continued uninterrupted until my mom finally passed the sharp, non-negotiable order

እንግዲ አትጨማለቂ...! ሂጂ ተኚ!" 😡

And just like that, my dramatic mourning session was officially over.🤭
