Today marks the 126th anniversary of the great victory of Adwa— a defining moment in African history that shattered colonial ambitions and preserved Ethiopia’s sovereignty. While the bravery of Ethiopian warriors is widely celebrated, the vital role of women in this victory often goes unrecognized.

Ethiopian women were not just supporters; they were warriors, strategists, and pillars of resilience. Empress Taytu fearlessly led her own battalion into battle, fought alongside men, proving that courage knows no gender. Mothers and wives carried weapons, treated the wounded, and ensured the army had food and supplies. They were the backbone of resistance, proving that victory is not only won on the battlefield but also through unity, sacrifice, and determination.

The legacy of these heroines continues to inspire the fight for justice, equality, and empowerment. Let us honor them by continuing to uplift and empower women in all aspects of society.
