Dear Friends, Family, and Well-Wishers,
I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love, support, and kind reactions you shared on Facebook following the graduation of my beloved daughter, Gelila Seyoum, as a medical doctor. Your heartfelt comments and warm wishes have filled our hearts with immense joy and pride, and we are truly grateful for your presence in this milestone moment, even if it was through your virtual support.
The graduation ceremony was nothing short of extraordinary—a vibrant and unique celebration of hard work, dedication, and achievement. It was an honor to stand on that stage not only as a teacher of the graduating class but also as the proud father of one of the graduates, Gelila. Sharing the stage with esteemed guests of honor, including the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health of Ethiopia, was a humbling experience that added to the significance of the day.
One of the most emotional and joyous moments was witnessing Gelila and her batch of 2024 take the Hippocratic Oath, pledging their commitment to the noble profession of medicine. This moment was particularly poignant for me, as it brought back memories of my own journey four decades ago, when I took the same oath in Spanish, far away from our homeland, in the Republic of Cuba. At that time, I stood alone, without the presence of family, in a country that welcomed me with open arms and gave me the opportunity to achieve my dreams. To this day, I hold immense respect and gratitude for Cuba, as I owe much of my achievements and professional journey to the education and values instilled in me during my time there.
Seeing Gelila repeat this sacred oath, surrounded by her peers, esteemed faculty, and honored guests, and her family was a full-circle moment that filled me with pride and emotion. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the President and Vice President of the university, the authorities of the College of Health Sciences, and the dedicated teachers and mentors of the School of Medicine, all of whom played a pivotal role in shaping these young minds into future healers.
Your kind words and encouragement have not only celebrated Gelila’s achievement but also reminded us of the power of community and the importance of sharing such moments with loved ones. We are deeply touched by your thoughtfulness and support, and we will forever cherish the memories of this special day, made even more meaningful by your presence in spirit.
Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this incredible journey. Your love and encouragement continue to inspire us, and we are truly blessed to have you in our lives.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Proud Father of Dr. Gelila Seyoum
